I’m not one to give too much meaning behind my poems, but this one might need some explaining. I think we often wear filters based on how we were conditioned and educated. The question I am asking is whether this is wrong or would we want to be able to remove these filters if possible. Do we want a view of the world only through the scientific lens or do we want our worldview skewed by the other elements like religion, myths, and magic?

A hint or glimmer in the peripheral Floods the light that bends Hold up your palm; wiggle each digit Is that a miracle; should I marvel? To pluck away these gold-rimmed spectacles Frozen in place with the epoxy that’s present Dividing the vision; bifocal phase Peel back the layers; use scientific methods What remains? Cold data raw with bacteria E. Coli seeps into matter; tainted meat Blinking eyelids and salination; a holy glare Cook until well done; smoky tears Filtering through charcoal; Synchronicity not coincidence Warm and satiated as synapses fire Bindings and hooks penetrate lobes Tightening frames; perception perpetually skewed
